The Fog Monster is a single vineyard 100% Petite Sirah, planted at a whopping 1800 metres above sea level. This altitude keeps the fruit away from the searingly hot temperatures, and maintains freshness and elegance. The fruit is farmed sustainably, and made with minimal use of sulphur. His wine is worth it for the label alone, reminiscent of Japanese woodblock art. The label is inspired by the influence of the Pacific fog, on the central coast vineyards of California. We have a range of wines called Mullineux from South Africa, so we were keen to taste their Californian project, established in 2012. Andrea grew up in San Francisco, and through a chance encounter, the project began, focussing on top quality parcels of fruit from single vineyards.

| Petite Sirah can be a big dense intense powerhouse of a grape, but this is not. It is refined, elegant and stylish, it has wonderfully complex, fresh fruit flavours, and really opens up when decanted. This is a captivating wine. |
