Description |
Grab an oyster, a glass and pour. In Languedocian dialect the word Picpoul litterally means "lip stinger". Piquepoul blanc grapes are grown on the hills above the Med, just a stone's throw from the world famous Bassan de Thau Oyster Farms! Grape Picpoul |
Tasting notes |
Vibrant and fresh on the palate with ripe mango fruit, a slightly salty edge and underlying minerality. An ancient white wine variety also known as Piquepoul, which translates as ‘stings the lip’, referring to the grape’s high acidity. The most famous version is Picpoul de Pinet, which produces taut, full-bodied whites that have wonderful herbal & citrus aromas. Picpoul vines thrive in sandy soils and so are only found in coastal vineyards. |
Food match |
Translated as ‘Spicy Lips’, this beautifully delicate white is a perfect match to oysters. Makes sense, as they are grown extremely close by! Think clean, crisp and refreshing flavours, balanced perfectly by the salinity found in fresh oysters, served with a squeeze of juicy lemon. A fresh goat’s cheese salad would be a wonderful vegetarian alternative. |
